What is Design
Sea Monster is proud to work with the Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI), particularly as Cape Town takes its position as World Design Capital in 2014. As a company and as individuals, we are greatly aware of the power and potential of design to impact upon, and change, our lives and our world. In 2013 we enjoyed working with the CCDI in creating short animated films that clearly communicated this important message to a broad range of stakeholders.
The first project involved creating an animation that visually communicated a complex message in a short timeframe – around the theme of ‘What is Design?’
The result is an animation that showcases South African design thinking, and shows how design, far from being something to put on a t-shirt, can have an impact on everything from low-cost, energy-efficient housing to critical educational awareness around HIV/Aids. This explainer was delivered in the form of a world-class product that can be utilised in communications with the public, civil society, and corporate audiences.
The second project was produced to communicate the design strategy of the city, province and country. Instead of a classic PowerPoint presentation, animation can be a more effective tool to get across big, strategic ideas in an engaging and often emotive way, connecting viewers to the bigger picture of society, and their country, as a whole. High-quality animated characters, scripting and voice talent inspire viewers at a personal level, ensuring that they take the campaign and message further in their lives than they might otherwise have done.
These projects and others in the Sea Monster portfolio illustrate the importance and value of high-quality digital content. Digital assets generated in the creation of animated explainers can then be used across a wide range of platforms, ensuring continuity and increasing brand awareness.
