The Hungry Season is a ten-minute animation commissioned by Leonie Joubert and funded by UCT’s Criminology Department and the Embassy of Finland.
The film tackles the issue of food security and how nutrition and access to food are influenced by poverty and gender. It’s an important film with a crucial message and Sea Monster brought its unique design, animation and even humour to the table.
The film was released in English, Xhosa, Afrikaans and Zulu and shown to policymakers, food industry stakeholders, and those at risk of malnutrition.
