Pick n Pay approached Sea Monster to create a mobile gaming app that brings the Protea Cricket teams to life in augmented reality.

Challenge

With the 2019 Cricket World Cup approaching, Pick n Pay wanted to create a fun and interactive campaign that incorporated the Cricket theme as well as caused as much of a hype as their previous Super Animals campaigns.

To support this, Pick n Pay created Cricket Super Cards, a collectable series of cards including 60 of South Africa’s most famous male and female Protea players as well as stadiums and even the Proteas mascot. For every R150 you spend at Pick n Pay, customers will receive 2 free cards. In order to amplify their campaign, they wanted an accompanying app and this when they approached Sea Monster.

Sea Monster created an augmented reality mobile app that allows users to scan their Super Cards and see their favourite players in 3D augmented reality. The app also includes a digital collection album, where users can view all the cards that they have collected as well as a quiz and an addictive mini-game.

The app encourages consumers to grow their collections with badges and rewards that will lead to users becoming South Africa’s Super Cards cricket captain.
