Sea Monster is the first South African Augmented Reality company to have been given early access to the recently launched Facebook Augmented Reality Studio. Still in its beta phase, Facebook AR Studio incorporates augmented reality effects into the popular social media app through the camera of your smartphone. Working similarly to the hugely popular Snapchat photo filters, Facebook AR Studio allows users to apply a visual overlay to their photos, videos or live stream videos and upload them to their Facebook story or timeline.
Sea Monster has subsequently created various augmented reality effects for ABSA, Samsung as well as Pick n Pay.
ABSA approached Sea Monster to create a number of effects for The ABSA Premier Soccer League. These effects allow fans to show their support for their teams by wearing the team’s makarapa and creating confetti and vuvuzela sounds by raising their eyebrows and opening their mouth.
Samsung approached us to create a Facebook camera effect for their Made for Summer campaign. Users could become a Cheetah or a Springbok by tapping the screen, while the second effect allowed users to tap between star shaped sunglasses and a snorkel mask. The third effect in this campaign was a Happy New Year effect with festive balloons and a banner saying “Happy 2018!”.
Recently Pick n Pay approached Sea Monster to create an effect for their Easter campaign, where users can munch on hot cross buns as their cheeks get bigger and bigger. A second effect for the Easter campaign put cute bunny ears on on users’ heads.
Sea Monster has also created a Pirate effect, which turns you into a Sea Monster Pirate complete with a range of pirate hats, eye patches and beards, which can be changed by tapping on the screen.
