When launching WiFi Hotspots around the Western Cape, it was the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) and Neotel’s number one priority to make sure that all internet newbies knew how to make the most of the new service.

Challenge

That’s when the DEDAT approached Sea Monster to create a series of educational animations, that would be used to bolster usage by teaching first-time users how to connect to the WiFi Hotspots, in order to access the newly launched service.

Sea Monster produced a series of seven 2-minute animations covering the basics about being connected, such as: What is the Internet?, What is WiFi?, Online Safety, and more.

The animated series is currently being used as part of the Internet Champion Initiative, a digital literacy programme established to ensure that the maximum number of residents make the most of the service.

This year the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation decided that they wanted to add a gamification element to the challenge and approached Sea Monster to create an application available on iOS and Android as well as a website with some awesome new graphics.
